Sunshine State Health Plan
Access Health Solutions (AHS) is a Minority Physician Network (MPN) that specializes in providing culturally competent, cost effective, quality enhancement services and care to the most vulnerable citizens – the poor and underserved who depend on the Medicaid/MediPass Program to provide their healthcare needs. Centene Corporation acquired a 49% ownership interest in AHS in 2007.
As an MPN, AHS partners with the State through a non-risk arrangement where the State pays AHS administrative fees and shares the State’s realized savings relative to similar populations in MediPass, Florida’s fee-for-service Primary Care Case Management program. AHS also operates as a Provider Service Network (PSN) to participate in Florida’s Medicaid Reform Program.
Sunshine State Health Plan (Sunshine Health), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Centene, was formed in 2007 to build a full risk Medicaid managed care enterprise in the State of Florida. Sunshine Health was created to incorporate the expertise, relationships and people of AHS into a full risk model, maintaining a local approach to Medicaid managed care. Sunshine Health began converting membership from AHS in February 2009.
