National Doctors Day: Honoring Doctors Who Advance our Mission
03/30/2026

March 30 is National Doctors’ Day, an opportunity to express gratitude for the doctors at Centene and those we partner with across our provider networks to advance our mission of transforming the health of the communities we serve, one person at a time. Their commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care helps translate care models into meaningful support for members every day.
When it comes to serving our members, doctors are an integral part of the team. They play a vital role by:
- Reviewing and guiding care decisions, often through utilization management, to help ensure members receive the right care at the right time
- Applying clinical standards, evidence‑based guidelines, and best practices to promote safer, more consistent care
- Informing and supporting clinical programs that improve outcomes across populations
- Collaborating across care teams to support members throughout their care journeys
This is especially critical for the population Centene serves, which is often lower-income and medically complex. In addition to sometimes having more health challenges, including mental health issues, they often face other obstacles, such as challenges accessing healthy foods and stable, affordable housing. Addressing these needs requires strong clinical leadership, teamwork, and a coordinated approach that helps members access care, stay on track with treatment plans, and navigate the healthcare system more easily.
The doctors on our team see this complexity as an opportunity to make a lasting impact.
“What drew me to Centene was the opportunity to work on a population health platform and to influence systems of care in ways that meaningfully improve outcomes for large numbers of people, while still honoring the individuality of each member. I often describe this as ‘individualized population health,’” said Dr. Sandy Vale, Centene Senior Medical Director.
That commitment to serving underserved populations at scale is shared across Centene’s clinical leadership. As Dr. Gautam Aggarwal, Chief Medical Officer, Ambetter, shares, “When I learned about Centene and their focus on government-sponsored programs, it became the North Star. It was an incredible opportunity to take care of underserved populations and to do so at a scale that could truly make a population level impact.”
This work is only possible with the support of the doctors in our provider network. By meeting our members where they are, practicing evidence‑based approaches to care, and navigating the complexities of our population with compassion and care, they help ensure care is accessible, coordinated, and focused on improved outcomes. They are true partners in advancing our mission.
On National Doctors’ Day and every day, we’re grateful for all the doctors who bring clinical expertise, compassion, and care to the communities we serve. Thank you for the impact you make, your commitment to helping members access the right care at the right time, and helping improve health outcomes.
