The Centene story began in 1984 as a single nonprofit Medicaid health plan operating in the basement of a Milwaukee, Wisconsin, hospital. Today, Centene is the nation’s largest Medicaid managed care organization in the United States, serving more than 8.5 million Medicaid members. Centene is also a leader in California, Florida, New York and Texas, four of the country’s largest Medicaid states.

The success of Centene’s Medicaid programs supports our multi-line portfolio approach, allowing us to leverage existing Medicaid infrastructure to support expansion of other business lines, such as our Allwell (Medicare Advantage) and our Ambetter (Health Insurance Marketplace) products.
